UK ring size chart (letters)
UK ring sizes are letters, from A to Z and then Z1 to Z4. Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and South Africa use the same letters. Each row matches a letter to its US size, EU size and the inside of the ring in mm.

This UK ring size chart shows how rings in the UK are sized with letters instead of the numbers used in America and Europe. The letters run from A to Z, and the biggest rings carry on as Z1, Z2, Z3 and Z4. Ireland and Australia use the same letters, so a size N ring fits just the same in London as it does in Sydney.
UK letters matched to US, EU and millimetre measurements
Each row gives two measurements of the inside of the ring. "Around" is the distance all the way round, the length you get by wrapping a paper strip round your finger. "Width" is the distance straight across. Half sizes, like N½ ("N and a half"), sit between two letters.
To use the chart, measure a ring that already fits, or wrap a strip of paper round your finger and measure it. Then find the closest number in the matching column. The letter at the start of that row is your UK size, and the next two columns give the US and European names for the same ring.
How the letters increase in size
Each letter is the same small step bigger than the one before, a little over 1 mm round the inside. So the letters go up evenly, just like European sizes, which are simply the millimetres round the inside. Every letter here comes from the standard ring size table.
After P, the sizes go P½, Q, Q½ and then R, each a little bigger than the last.
Which letters are the most common?
Most women wear an L½ to an N½, and the most common size is M½. Most men wear a T½ to a V½, and the most common is U½, according to the Antique Jewellery Company, a UK jewellery shop. These averages help when you are buying a surprise gift, but for a ring worn every day, measuring is better.
Reading a paper strip in centimetres
Many rulers and tape measures show centimetres. A strip of 5.4 cm is the same as 54 mm, which is a European 54 and sits between UK N and N½. If you are between two sizes, the bigger one, N½, is the safer choice.

Questions people often ask
Is a size 7 ring big?
In UK sizes a US 7 is an N½, just above M½, the most common size for women. So on a woman's hand it is a normal size, not a big one, while on a man's hand it would be small.
What US size is a 21 mm ring?
If the ring is 21 mm straight across the inside, it is about a US 11½, which is UK W½. If 21 mm came from a paper strip round your finger, something went wrong, because even the smallest ring on the standard table is 36.5 mm round. Try measuring again.
Can I find my ring size with my phone?
Yes. First you hold a bank card against the card shown on the screen, so the tool can draw its circles at their real size, because every bank card is made the same size. Then lay a ring you own on the circle and match it, and your UK letter appears. It covers every UK letter from A to Z4.
Where does the UK scale end?
The standard table goes up to Z4, which is a US 14½. Some UK jewellers carry on past Z4 with their own sizes, but many sell bigger rings by their European size instead: a ring 75 mm round, for example, is a European 75, about a US 15.
